How to pick the right size

Seat counts assume people sitting upright, shoulder to shoulder. For two adults who want space, a 4 seat barrel is the comfortable choice. Bigger is not free: moving from a 6 kW to an 8 or 9 kW heater moves you from a 30 amp to a 40 or 45 amp breaker and heavier wire, per the heater manuals. See breaker and wire size.

Worked example: total first-year cost

A Pinnacle at $6,060, plus a gravel and paver base, plus a 30 amp 240V run from the panel, is the typical path. Electrical and base costs vary widely by distance from the panel and site, so get two quotes. Our install cost guide lists each line item to ask about.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best barrel sauna for most people in 2026?

For most households we point to the Almost Heaven Pinnacle. It seats up to four, runs a 6 kW heater on a 30 amp 240V circuit, starts at $6,060 at the maker, and Almost Heaven lists its country of origin as USA. It hits the middle ground on size, wiring and price.

What is the cheapest good barrel sauna?

In our catalog the lowest starting price is the Almost Heaven Salem 2 person barrel, from $4,485 at the maker when checked on Oct 23, 2026. It uses the same 6 kW, 30 amp heater spec as the Pinnacle in a shorter 47 inch deep body. Budget for the electrician and base on top.

Which barrel sauna is best for six or more people?

For six, the Almost Heaven Seneca seats up to six on an 8 or 9 kW heater, from $8,844 at the maker. For eight, Renu Therapy lists the Zeno 8 and Seneca 8, both rated up to 195 F with 8 kW heaters on 40 amp service. Larger barrels need larger circuits.

Do barrel saunas need a permit?

Often the electrical work does, even when the structure is small enough to skip a building permit. A hard-wired 240V heater circuit typically needs an electrical permit and inspection. Rules vary by city, so check with your local building department. Our Washington, Oregon and Las Vegas permit guides cover those areas.

Is a canopy or porch worth paying for?

In rainy or snowy climates, usually yes. A canopy keeps rain off the door, gives you a dry spot to change and shades the front staves. On the Almost Heaven Charleston it adds length to the footprint, 94 inches deep versus 71 for the Pinnacle, so measure your pad before you choose.

How did you choose these barrel saunas?

We compared every barrel sauna in our catalog on published heater size, electrical requirement, seat count, dimensions, starting price and stated country of origin, using the maker spec sheets. We have not run lab tests, and we do not publish ratings we cannot source. Prices change, so check the maker before buying.
