The best home saunas of 2026, ranked by use case

Last updated by the Brevley & Sons editorial team

Short answer: On published specs, the Almost Heaven Pinnacle 4 Person Barrel (from $6,060 with a 6 kW heater, US origin per Almost Heaven, limited lifetime warranty) is our best outdoor sauna overall. Redwood Outdoors' 6 person barrel ($5,299 with a 6 kW heater) is the value pick for groups, and the Finnleo NorthStar, built in Minnesota, is our indoor traditional pick. If you cannot add a 240V circuit, the Almost Heaven Hinton infrared runs on a 120V 20 amp outlet. We ranked on maker data only and did not test these saunas.

Not legal or electrical advice. This guide summarizes published manuals, codes and agency pages as of the date above. Rules change and vary by jurisdiction. Confirm your plans with a licensed electrician or contractor and your local building department before you buy or install.

How we ranked these (please read). We have not tested any of these saunas hands-on. We ranked them on each maker's own published price, heater, electrical requirement, size, warranty, lead time and country of origin, checked live on the maker's site on October 22, 2026. We did not use customer reviews or star ratings, and we quote no reviewer. Origin wording is the maker's own. Prices change often and several makers were running sales on the day we checked, so confirm on the linked page. Brevley & Sons does not currently sell any of these brands, and no brand paid for placement. We have asked Almost Heaven about becoming a dealer; there is no agreement, and that inquiry did not affect the ranking. Six of the eight picks are Almost Heaven because it is the only maker we checked that publishes a price, heater, circuit, size and country of origin on every model page.

The short list

  1. Best outdoor barrel sauna overall: Almost Heaven Pinnacle 4 Person Barrel
  2. Best value for a group, with a Seattle showroom: Redwood Outdoors Barrel Outdoor Sauna, 6 Person
  3. Best for small yards and couples: Almost Heaven Salem 2 Person Barrel
  4. Best wood-fired option: Almost Heaven Blackwater 4 Person Cube with the Harvia M3 kit
  5. Best indoor traditional sauna: Finnleo NorthStar 5x6 (NSI-56)
  6. Best indoor hybrid (traditional plus infrared): Almost Heaven Serena 3 Person
  7. Best full-spectrum infrared on a 120V outlet: Almost Heaven Hinton 2-3 Person Infrared
  8. Best one-person infrared: Almost Heaven Laurel 1 Person Infrared

Decide these three things before you pick a brand

1. Traditional or infrared. A traditional sauna heats rocks and air with a heater that needs a 240V circuit, usually 30 amps for 6 kW and 40 to 50 amps for 8 to 10.5 kW. An infrared sauna warms you with panels and the two infrared picks here plug into a 120V, 20 amp dedicated outlet. Our infrared vs traditional guide covers temperatures and heat-up times.

2. Indoor or outdoor. Indoor rooms avoid foundations and roofing but need floor space and, for traditional heaters, a 240V run to that room. Outdoor barrels and cabins need a level, draining base, a roof plan and, in most of Washington and Oregon, a look at permit thresholds. See our Washington and Oregon permit guides.

3. Your panel. A 6 kW heater draws 25 amps continuously. If your panel is full, the electrician's bill can rival the heater. Get a load calculation first; our breaker and wire size guide and install cost guide show the numbers.

Almost Heaven's warranty page says each sauna carries a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, excluding normal weathering, improper assembly and weather events, and that it does not transfer to a second owner. Harvia heaters it sells carry 1 year on heating elements and 5 years on other heater components. Redwood Outdoors states a 1-year limited warranty on its saunas with the same Harvia heater terms. Redwood's outside dimensions are converted from its feet-and-inches listing.

1. Best outdoor barrel sauna overall: Almost Heaven Pinnacle 4 Person

Why it ranks first: it combines a published US origin, a long room warranty and a sensible size at a price most barrel buyers can reach. The 6 by 6 foot barrel seats up to four, or one person lying down, and the base configuration includes a 6 kW Harvia KIP heater with dial controls.

  • Price: from $6,060 (rustic red cedar, glass door, 6 kW KIP with dials). Windows, a half-and-half door, the Onyx stain and smart heaters raise it to $9,419.20.
  • Size: 78 in wide, 71 in deep, 81.5 in tall outside; interior 75.25 x 63.25 x 69.25 in; benches 16 in wide and 63.25 in long.
  • Build: 1-3/8 in ball-and-socket lumber, tempered glass, stainless bands and hardware, interior LED light, stones included.
  • Power: 240V 30 amp hardwired heater circuit plus a 120V 15 amp plug-in circuit for the light.
  • Origin and warranty: Almost Heaven lists "Country of Origin: USA" and a limited lifetime room warranty. The heater is a Harvia, a Finnish brand.
  • Watch for: 6 to 8 week ship time, and a barrel needs a firm, level base rated for 1,000 lb or more per Almost Heaven's manual. In a wet yard, see our rainy-climate foundations guide and barrel roofing guide.

2. Best value for a group, with a Seattle showroom: Redwood Outdoors Barrel, 6 Person

Why: at $5,299 with a 6 kW Harvia KIP heater, stones, shingles and backrests included, it is the lowest published price we found for a six-seat barrel with a heater. Redwood Outdoors lists a Kent, Washington address and a Seattle showroom, which matters if you want to sit in one before you buy.

  • Size: 6 ft 0.75 in wide, 5 ft 11 in long, 6 ft 4.5 in tall outside; interior volume 140 cubic feet; 900 lb. Redwood says it seats up to six and is spacious for four.
  • Wood: 1.5 in Canadian heat-treated hemlock. Redwood says the thermal modification increases durability; thermally modified wood is one of the options we discuss for wet climates.
  • Power: 240V, 30 amp breaker for the 6 kW KIP; 8 kW and larger heaters need 40 amps or more. Redwood says all heaters must be installed by a certified electrician.
  • Warranty: 1-year limited on the sauna, much shorter than Almost Heaven's lifetime room warranty. That is the main tradeoff for the lower price.
  • Origin: Canadian hemlock, Finnish heater. It does not belong in a Made in USA search.

3. Best for small yards and couples: Almost Heaven Salem 2 Person

Why: the Salem is the same barrel construction as the Pinnacle cut to 47 in deep, so it fits a side yard or small patio. At $4,485 it is the lowest-priced traditional sauna on this list.

  • Size: 78 x 47 x 75.4 in outside; interior 75.25 x 39.25 x 69.25 in; one bench 39.25 in long.
  • Power: the same 6 kW, 240V 30 amp heater as the Pinnacle. A smaller room does not mean a smaller circuit here.
  • Origin and warranty: "Country of Origin: USA," limited lifetime room warranty, ships in 6 to 8 weeks.
  • Watch for: Seattle and Portland setbacks and permit thresholds still apply to a small sauna; check our permit guides.

4. Best wood-fired option: Almost Heaven Blackwater 4 Person with the Harvia M3 kit

Why: most barrel makers say wood stoves fit only certain models. Almost Heaven publishes exact steps for this one: the Blackwater cube takes the Harvia M3 wood stove if it is paired with the WL450 protective sheath, which Almost Heaven says cuts clearances to 2 inches, and the install requires modifying the metal roof as described in the manual. The M3 kit ($3,939) includes a protective base and surround, stainless chimney sections, a chimney boot and stones.

  • Price: $11,268 for the electric version with a 9 kW heater (240V, 45 amp). The M3 kit is sold separately; ask Almost Heaven how the wood configuration is priced.
  • Size: 84.4 x 71 x 85.9 in outside; interior 79.6 x 63.25 x 79.6 in; 24 in upper and 20 in lower benches; seats four to six.
  • Origin: "Country of Origin: USA" for the room. The M3 is a Harvia stove.
  • Watch for: 8 to 12 week ship time. In Washington, uncertified wood devices cannot be used during Stage 1 or Stage 2 burn bans under WAC 173-433, and Seattle and Portland expect a mechanical permit for the stove and chimney. Read our wood-burning sauna stove guide before you choose wood over electric.

5. Best indoor traditional sauna: Finnleo NorthStar 5x6

Why: the NorthStar is a freestanding indoor sauna with prebuilt walls, so it avoids a framed-in build, and Finnleo says the series is "built in Minnesota, hand-crafted by our expert builders." Finnleo says you assemble it and wire it to a single 240V source, with no extra 120V circuit for lights.

  • Heater and power: Designer SL2 6.0 kW with SaunaLogic2 control and app; 240V, 30 amps, single phase.
  • Size: 72 in wide, 60 in deep, 84 in tall; about 750 lb. Finnleo lists seating for two on this model and three on its series page, with room to lie on the top bench.
  • Materials: Nordic white spruce walls and ceiling inside and out, aspen or abachi benches and backrests.
  • Warranty: Finnleo's all-in-one limited warranty lists 5 years on traditional heaters, with freight, for residential use, when bought from an authorized dealer and registered within 60 days.
  • Watch for: no published price (you buy through a dealer), and the floor is an upgrade on this size. Spruce is an indoor wood; this is not an outdoor sauna.

6. Best indoor hybrid: Almost Heaven Serena 3 Person

Why: the Serena is a traditional 6 kW sauna with optional infrared panels, so one room can run hot and dry or add infrared warmth. Floor-to-ceiling glass and two bench levels make it feel larger than its 58 by 64 inch footprint.

  • Price: $4,725 in rustic red cedar with a 6 kW KIP; $6,524 with the hybrid infrared panels; up to $9,120 with a smart heater in hemfir.
  • Size: 57.75 x 63.75 x 79.4 in outside; interior 53.25 x 60.25 x 75.25 in; door 75.25 x 25.9 in.
  • Power: 240V 30 amp hardwired heater, plus 110V 15 amp for lighting.
  • Origin and warranty: "Country of Origin: USA," limited lifetime room warranty.

7. Best full-spectrum infrared on a 120V outlet: Almost Heaven Hinton 2-3 Person

Why: if you cannot run a 240V line, an infrared room is the practical route, and the Hinton is the only full-spectrum (far and near infrared) model we found with a published price and a US country of origin. It needs a 120V, 20 amp dedicated outlet, which an electrician can usually add without a panel upgrade.

  • Price: $6,840. Almost Heaven was offering an extra promotional credit on the day we checked.
  • Size: 69.9 x 47.1 x 77.6 in outside; interior 65.25 x 42.5 x 76.1 in; upper bench 24 in deep.
  • Build: rustic cedar, tempered glass, digital touchpad. Almost Heaven says it installs on your existing flooring.
  • Lead time: ships in 2 to 3 weeks, faster than the barrels.
  • Watch for: a 20 amp outlet is a different receptacle from a standard 15 amp one. Almost Heaven's FAQ says infrared saunas can plug into "a standard household outlet," but this product page lists a 20 amp dedicated outlet; follow the product page. Infrared rooms are indoor units.

8. Best one-person infrared: Almost Heaven Laurel

Why: at 53.25 by 36 inches it fits a bedroom corner or a large closet, and it shares the Hinton's 120V 20 amp outlet requirement and US origin.

  • Price: $5,999.99.
  • Heat: far infrared only (the Hinton adds near infrared).
  • Size: 53.25 x 36 x 77.6 in outside; interior 49 x 31.75 x 76.1 in.
  • Watch for: the price is close to the two-to-three person Hinton. Unless space is the constraint, the Hinton is the better value on paper.

Also considered

  • Almost Heaven Allegheny 6 Person Cabin (from $10,722). A large outdoor cabin with 8 to 10.5 kW heaters on 40 to 50 amp circuits. Almost Heaven lists its country of origin as Estonia, a reminder that one brand can sell rooms from several countries. Check each model page.
  • Almost Heaven Elysian Infrared (from $6,210.99). A carbon infrared room for two or three. Almost Heaven lists China as the country of origin.
  • Sunlighten and Clearlight. Well-known infrared makers, but neither publishes prices on its site; both route buyers to a pricing request. Sunlighten's site says its saunas "aren't designed to be placed outdoors" and need a sauna cover outside for the warranty to be honored. Our infrared guide lists their circuit requirements.

A note on Made in USA

Several picks list a US country of origin for the room. Under the FTC's Made in USA standard, an unqualified claim means all or virtually all of the product is made in the US, and a traditional sauna's heater is a significant part. Every traditional pick here ships with a Finnish-brand heater. We only add a product to our Made in USA section when the maker confirms the whole product in writing; see our standards.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best home sauna in 2026?

On published specs, our overall outdoor pick is the Almost Heaven Pinnacle 4 Person Barrel, listed from $6,060 with a 6 kW Harvia heater as of October 22, 2026. Almost Heaven lists its country of origin as USA and backs the room with a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. The right sauna depends on indoor or outdoor use, your electrical panel and how many people will use it, so check the use-case picks.

Did Brevley & Sons test these saunas?

No. We have not tested any of these saunas hands-on. We ranked them on what each maker publishes: price, heater size, electrical requirement, interior size, warranty, lead time and stated country of origin. Every figure links to the maker page so you can check it yourself.

Which home saunas are made in the USA?

Go by what the maker states for each model. Almost Heaven lists "Country of Origin: USA" on the Pinnacle, Salem, Blackwater, Serena, Hinton and Laurel pages, but "Estonia" on the Allegheny cabin and "China" on the Elysian infrared. Finnleo says its NorthStar saunas are built in Minnesota. Redwood Outdoors uses Canadian heat-treated hemlock. Traditional heaters on these rooms are Finnish-brand Harvia or Finnleo units, so a whole sauna may not meet the FTC all or virtually all standard even when the room is built in the US.

Do I need a 240V circuit for a sauna?

For a traditional electric sauna, yes. Every traditional pick here uses a 6 kW or larger heater on 240V: Almost Heaven lists a 30 amp requirement for 6 kW and 45 amps for the 9 kW Blackwater, and Finnleo lists 30 amps for the NorthStar 6 kW. The infrared Hinton and Laurel instead call for a 120V, 20 amp dedicated outlet. See our sauna heater breaker and wire size guide.

Can I use a wood-burning sauna in Washington or Oregon?

Often, but not on burn ban days. Most sauna stoves are not EPA certified, and Washington rule WAC 173-433 bars uncertified wood devices during Stage 1 and Stage 2 burn bans. You will also usually need a mechanical permit for the stove and chimney. Our wood-burning sauna stove guide covers Seattle, Portland and Oregon certification rules.

Which sauna is best for a rainy Pacific Northwest yard?

Pick rot-resistant wood, keep it off the ground and plan a roof that sheds water. Almost Heaven barrels are cedar and ship with a shingle roof kit; Redwood Outdoors uses heat-treated hemlock and offers a metal or beveled roof upgrade. Almost Heaven says its barrel cradles need a firm, level base rated for 1,000 lb or more, not bare earth. Our rainy-climate guide covers foundations and roofing.
