Worked example: wiring
A 6 kW heater at 240V draws 25 amps, which is why makers specify a 30 amp double-pole breaker. An 8 kW heater draws about 33 amps and needs 40 amps. If your panel has one free double slot and modest headroom, a 6 kW room is the easier install. See breaker and wire size and running a sauna and plunge on one panel.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best indoor sauna for a home in 2026?
For most homes we point to a 2 to 3 person traditional room such as the Almost Heaven Spectacle or Serena. Both run a 6 kW heater on a 30 amp 240V circuit, start under $4,800 at the maker, and are listed with a country of origin of USA. They fit a spare room or large closet footprint.
Does an indoor sauna need 240V?
Traditional electric indoor saunas in our catalog do. Their heaters list 240V at 30, 40 or 45 amps, hard-wired, plus a separate 110 to 120V, 15 amp lighting circuit. Infrared models generally draw less, but check the manual for the exact circuit before buying.
Can you put a sauna in a basement or garage?
Often yes, with planning. You need a floor that tolerates moisture, a dedicated electrical circuit, intake and exhaust ventilation, and clearances from the heater manual. Electrical work typically needs a permit. Our garage sauna guide covers Washington and Oregon details.
Is a traditional or infrared indoor sauna better?
Traditional saunas heat the air to roughly 150 to 195 F and allow steam from water on the stones. Infrared heats you more directly at lower air temperatures and often uses less power. Pick traditional for the classic experience, infrared for easier wiring and lower heat. See our infrared vs traditional guide.
Which indoor sauna is made in the USA?
Renu Therapy states its Rusticus indoor saunas are made in the USA, and we link that statement as proof. Almost Heaven spec sheets list a country of origin of USA for the Spectacle, Serena, Oasis, Titan and Bridgeport, and Romania for the Worthington, Patterson, Hillsboro and Sutton.
How big a room does an indoor sauna need?
Measure the exterior size plus a few inches for assembly and air. The 2 person Spectacle is 57¾ by 52¼ inches outside and 79⅜ inches tall. The 6 person Titan is 83¼ by 72¼ inches. Check ceiling height and door swing before you order.
