The Celtic Knot ring is a cut-steel fire ring with an endless knot band from Bonfire by Design, sized from 30 to 60 inches. Prices run from $160 for a 30 by 12 inch standard steel ring to $570 for a 60 by 18 inch Corten ring at the maker.

Rings come 12 or 18 inches tall and ship in panels. Standard steel arrives raw and should be painted or it will rust; Corten weathers to a stable rust patina that the maker says needs no maintenance.

Standard steel or Corten?

Corten usually costs $30 to $50 more per size at the maker. It forms a protective rust layer and needs no paint. Standard steel arrives raw and should be painted with high heat paint.

Can I use it inside a brick or block fire pit?

Yes, a steel ring is often set inside a masonry pit to protect the bricks from direct flame. Pick a diameter that fits inside your surround.

Can it go on a wood or composite deck?

Not directly. Wood fires need a noncombustible base, so most people set them on pavers, gravel or concrete. Ask the maker before using any heat shield on a deck.
